Modifying the User Defined Variables

The Variable Text Replacement program allows you to substitute text for numerous variables used within ABS. This feature was primarily developed for clients using ABS with a language other than English. For example, if your measurement for weight is “Kilos” versus “Pounds,” you may enter “Kilos” and it will be substituted wherever “Pounds” would normally be used. Certain fields will be automatically right-justified in order to be consistent with the standard ABS System.

This program is accessed via the ABS Utilities, choice “U” from the ABS main menu. After activating the ABS Utilities, the Variable Text Replacement program is activated by entering “U”:

The program begins and displays the following dialog:

Enter your replacement text, if required. Press <F1> for help with each field. When finished with this page, press <PgDn> to view the next page of variables:

When you’ve completed replacing the necessary variables, click on "OK" to exit and save your changes.

Users of the Management Reporting System (MARS) should review variable #16, “MARS Users Secondary Key”, and enter the text desired for the MARS secondary search key (i.e., Traveler, Order No., Campaign, etc.). Refer to Setting up the Management Reporting System for more information.
