Control Charge Program

(released July 15, 1991)

The “Control Charge” program was created to interface with the ABS Least Cost Charge (MIX) and Least Cost Additions (TAP) programs. The Control Charge Program allows you to disburse the calculated charge weight to any of nine (9) Control Samples columns. To use this feature, perform the following steps:

Step 1 - Set Special Option #53 (Execute Control Charge Program) in your Master Directory to one of the following choices:

  • MIX - To execute the Control Charge program only in MIX, or;
  • TAP - To execute the Control Charge program only in TAP, or;
  • YES - To execute the Control Charge program in both the MIX and TAP programs.

Step 2 - Perform a normal charge (or additions) calculation and reserve it. For our example, we’ve calculated a 45,000 lb. charge of Grade Code 316:

Step 3 - After the charge calculation has been reserved and displayed/printed, the control charge program will automatically begin and display the following:

The original calculated weight will be assigned to Control Sample (1) when the program begins. To transfer the amount in Control Sample (1) to the currently highlighted position, press <Enter>. If the currently highlighted position is not blank and <Enter> is pressed, the weight in the highlighted position will transfer back to Control Sample (1). The <Enter> key acts as a toggle between the highlighted position and the value in Control Sample (1).

In the example below, the weight for A286 RMT (8,431 lbs.) was transferred to Control Sample (2):

To access control samples 4-9, press the <right arrow> key. The melt stage for each Control Sample is shown, and defined as follows:

IC - Initial Charge
IA - Intermediate Additions
FA - Final Additions

You can view an individual material record by positioning the highlighter in any corresponding column and pressing <F4>. Press <Esc> or click on “Proceed>” to return to the Control Charge dialog.

You can view the Control Chemistry at any time by clicking “F5-View/Print Control Chemistry” on the menu bar at the top of the screen. An example of the Control Charge menu bar is shown below:

F1-Help - Displays a help message.
PgUp/PgDn - View multiple pages of materials.
F4-View Material - View a single material record.
F5-View/Print Control Chemistry - View and print the control charge report and chemistry analysis.
About - Displays a help file.
F10-Quit - Quit the program without saving any changes.

When finished building the Control Charge, click on “Finished>>” to save the information. If you want to exit the program without saving any changes, press <F10> or click “F10-Quit” on the menu bar at the top of the screen.
